Guides for Builders, Tradies & Construction Workers
Plain-English tax guides. Checked against the ATO, not guessed.
Every guide here is written by a registered tax agent who works with builders every day, with the official source listed at the bottom and the date we checked it. Read it, use it, and call us when it gets personal.
Start with the one that matches your week.
Updated October 2026. Each guide lists its ATO and legislative sources.
TPAR due date for builders
Who has to lodge the Taxable payments annual report, what goes in it, the 28 August deadline, and what a late one costs in 2026.
Construction worker tax deduction checklist
For employees on wages: tools, boots, hi-vis, sunscreen, travel, licences, overtime meals — what the ATO allows, what it doesn't, and the records you need.
EOFY checklist for builders
The six-week countdown to 30 June for build businesses: WIP, super, subbie ABNs, trust resolutions, STP finalisation and 40 deductions builders miss.
EOFY checklist for individuals
For employees and investors: what to gather for your 2025–26 return, the 31 October deadline, and what to do before 30 June 2027 — super caps, the new 15% rate and the $1,000 standard deduction.
How we write these
Tax rules change every year, and most of what's wrong on the internet about builder tax was right once. So every guide on this site follows the same rules: we quote the ATO or the legislation rather than paraphrasing from memory, we list the sources and the date we checked them, and we say when something is uncertain. If you find something that's out of date, email us and we'll fix it.
General information only. Nothing here is personal tax advice. Your situation will have details these guides can't see — talk to us before you act on anything.
